A Touch of Nostalgia
A LITTLE ABOUT ME
One of my greatest joys has been to watch children discover what their world is all about. Little did I realize how these observations would become invaluable resources for my writing. It was my granddaughter, Macy, who has Down Syndrome, that inspired me to write my first children's book, Is Being Different a Good Thing to Be?. At times it was challenging but worth all the late nights researching, the gallons of caffeine intensive drinks to stay alert and the many missed events to complete the manuscript. And finnish it I did!
THE BEGINNINGS
Writing does not come easily at times, but the agony of the journey carries uncountable rewards. As a child so enjoyed holding a book in my little hands and reading the wonderful words on its pages. Every summer our local library held a campaign for young readers. Every week I would check out five books, read them, write a small description then return them to the library. At the end of the program, all the participants were given a little red ribbon as a reward. I cherished those little ribbons, as if they were made of gold. I would give anything to know where those little red ribbons are today.
A DREAM FULFILLED
For years my children and now my grandchildren have encouraged me to put on paper the many bedtime stories I told them. Honestly, I just figured what was the sense with the multitudes of wonderful tales already out there? Then, I thought what's the harm of just writing them for my family? I focused on writing about something I knew something about. It was my granddaughter, Macy, who has Down Syndrome, who inspired my first children's picture book, Is Being Different a Good Thing to Be? I have since completed two more Macy stories and I'm working on the fourth. I've also created another series featuring a wonderfully, whimsical character I call Bingo Boo. I have almost completed the fourth book in this series, as well. Is Being Different a Good Thing to Be? is now published. Something I never dreamed would happen; I captured my dream.
